Solid-Sounds are proud to announce the arrival of the Linn LP12 PRISM™ plinth.
How do you modernise a classic? That was the challenge we set ourselves at Solid-Sounds with the iconic
Linn Sondek LP12 turntable. For nearly 50 years the LP12 turntable has steadily evolved with new
materials and technology finding its way into the timeless design. Many third party manufactures have
independently worked to increase the vast option list making it a truly unique product. We love the LP12
for its ability to be completely tailored to its owner and something that can evolve at any time should the
owner wish.
Solid-Sounds offer a range of LP12 plinths and so this crucial part of the turntables structure was an area
of great interest as it has hardly changed in its half a century of existence. Yes fluting has come and gone,
afromosia timber is no longer an option and probably the biggest change was the inclusion of internal
corner bracing some 20+years go…hardly ground breaking.
Linns outsourced plinth manufacturing partners have come and gone too over the decades with highs and
lows in their quality and wood choice. 3rd party artisan makers have explored some of the most unusual
and exotic hardwoods making completely one off statement plinths that are something to cherish for life.
Exceptions have arisen with the birth of CNC machined aluminium plinths, bamboo, even marble &
concrete but still the basic aesthetic has remained the same…that was until now!
We are pleased to introduce the brand new Solid-Sounds PRISM™ plinth.
The PRISM™ plinth retains all the basic elements of the iconic Linn plinth including all the necessary
dimensions for installing the top plate, arm-board, sub chassis, cross brace, lid and baseboard. How the
PRISM™ plinth differs is that the 50 year old square angular styling of the standard plinth has been
replaced with a series of sharp geometric angles creating a stunning contemporary design. Each carefully
selected angle aligns with some of the turntables key elements; an example of this is that the offset front
angle is perfectly aligned to the bearing drawing focus on one of the critical elements of the turntable. This
brand new interpretation viewed through a completely new optic offers all the same qualities of the finest
artisan made plinths including exacting corner grain matching and the choice of stunning hardwoods but
with a modern twist.
Just like a beautifully cut diamond when the light catches the angles of the PRISM™ plinth the true beauty
of this design is reflected.
Don’t be square be PRISM™ and enjoy a total unique statement plinth that a cut or two above the norm!
